Samsung 780 - Samsung SGH-i780 India

Samsung SGH i780

The Samsung 780 is gaining popularity as a favorite amongst the business community and those who require something more than just making and receiving calls.

Samsung SGH-i780

The Samsung SGH-i780 is well made and feels very solid in the hand. The back of the phone is made from soft touch plastic materials, including the battery cover. This makes the back slightly more scratch resistant and resists fingerprints well, unlike the front which is entirely clad with a glossy finish. No doubt the gloss makes the i780 look COOL, but you have to clean it often.

The front of the i780 is dominated by its 2.55 inch touch screen that displays up to 65,000 colors and has a 320 x 320 pixel resolution.

Just below the screen, the i780 has something called an optical touchpad similar to the ones found on most laptops, but much smaller. The i780’s interface includes a mouse pointer and you can click various options on-screen without ever taking out your stylus.

The white backlit QWERTY keyboard has the standard QWERTY layout and also some additional keys, including a dedicated Messaging and GPS key located at the bottom right corner of the keyboard. We like how Samsung has included all these dedicated keys and double function keys. For example, the End key locks the phone when you press and hold - cool.

The right side of the i780 consists of the charger/headset jack, the microSD (up to 8GB) slot, and the media key, which launches Windows Media Player when pressed once, or the camera when held down. It also works as a shutter button when the i780 is in camera mode. The left side of the phone houses the volume keys and pin sized reset hole. The bottom is empty except for a tiny opening where the microphone is, and the top of the phone houses only the power button. The back of the i780 has a simple and clean design. The 2-megapixel camera lens is nestled in the centre at the top of the phone, alongside the loudspeaker. The stylus is located to the right of the loudspeaker. The battery cover takes up almost 80% of the back of the phone, and closes with the tightness of a vacuum container. Overall, cool design and build quality.

Samsung SGH-i780

Measuring 115.9mm x 61.3mm x 12.9mm and weighing a mere 120 grams, it’s one of the slimmest and lightest WM6 Professional phones out there at the moment. Overall, the Samsung i780 is a really cool device.

    Samsung SGH-i780 CONS:

The optical mouse (Keypad) may not be everyone’s cup of tea but you will get used to it. The screen resolution (320×320) might pose problems for a few third party applications you might fancy using on Windows Mobile
WM6: I would have expected this new phone to come loaded with the WM 6.1 version. It runs on WM6 but Samsung has confirmed that the 6.1 upgrade will be available in August. So not a deal breaker!

I recently bought Samsung i780 and trust me its really a cool peace. Very good battery back up. They have also provided extra battery which is very useful for heavy travellers. The optical mouse is perfectly sensitive and speed is also good. The disadvantages: 1. The keypad is too tiny to operate. Little difficult to type quick messages. 2. They have not provided the leather case and its not available in any mobile store.
Neverthless, its a good deal. I bought it for Rs. 20,300.00
