Yamaha R15 India Release
Yamaha R15 is all set to roll on roads in India (Mahape - Surat - Bangalore - Bhopal - New Delhi - Chennai - Hyderabad - Mumbai - Pune - all over) and Nepal.

The aim of introducing the Yamaha R15 bike in India is to enrich Indian biker’s riding experience, however it’s not meant for only the riding enthusiasts as was explained by Tsutomu Mabuchi, Managing Director, Yamaha India.
Yamaha R15 India
Tsutomu Mabuchi about the Yamaha R15: “This particular bike looks very racy but actually a very mediocre person can also drive this bike as you have probably seen today”
Yamaha R15
We all shall see & hear a lot of the praise bubble as we always do when something ‘imported looking’ comes to India - however, here are a few cool and not so cool questions we ask ourselves about the yahama R15.
Yamaha R15 looks cool and powerful (compared only to other Indian bikes) - but is it - 150 cc only - 17 bhp ?
Does the Yamaha R15 need to pack much back ? are the rear tires too thin ? rear too ordinary ?
Are the Yamaha R15 features comparable to international (more expensive) bikes or even the international more affordable bikes ? ?
Do we need another affordable sports bike or do we need a real sports bike ?
Is the style / looks comparable to international bikes in the same class ?
Yamaha R15 = too much plastic ?
Yamaha R15 India
Besides all these details however, we strongly feel that the Yamaha R15 certainly has a unique appeal - it is one of the best bikes ever introduced in India. Way to go Yamaha - rock on…
Look at Yamaha R125 (Yamaha R15’s - 125 cc R-series sibling sold in Europe) below and decide for yourself - are you satisfied with the yamaha r15 in India and Nepal ? Yamaha R15 - COOL or NOT COOL ? ?

Yamaha R15 in Blazing Red Color !

About
gr8 looks!
Yamaha will blow off every other bike manufactured in India with the new 150cc. Yamaha will christen this bike as YZF R15 and will score first -in-class/ first-in-indian bikes credits such as full fairing, front and rear disc, monoshock suspension system at the rear and twin lights. But the real attraction of the Yamaha 150cc R15 will be its four stroke, oil cooled,4-valve, liquid cooled and Fuel injected (FI) engine. The yamaha R15 150cc engine would develop maximum power in the range of 20-22bhp (if true, will make it more powerful than Karizma and Pulsar 220cc DTS-FI). Above all, Yamaha’s 150cc R15 will zoom past 60km/hr in just 3 second and 100km/hr in 9 seconds. Top speed of R15 will be around 145km/hr and it will consume a litre of petrol to go for 35-40km.
yamaha R15 is 22bhp or 17bhp ?

The YZF-R1 and YZF-R6 are equipped with under cowls that are based on the image of a diffuser, to give them the best form for aero-management. These are not cowls for simply enclosing the engine, but forms composed of blade surfaces that actively control airflow. This spirit has been directly inherited by the YZF-R15.
“Harmony between rider and machine.” YAMAHA’s Human Technology involves studying the form of the motorcycle actually in motion with the rider on it. The R series is the embodiment of 1) a wide frontal space that protects the rider, 2) an easy to ride seating area that gives riders the freedom of movement and allows them to steer effectively, 3) the glamorous tail treatment that takes into account the management of airflow behind the rider, and 4) a sensual racing form that brings all 3 of these elements together in a harmonious package. These characteristics have been splendidly reproduced in the YZF-R15.
Additionally, the designs were developed in the same modeling room where YZF-R1 designers worked. Information was shared, ensuring that the R lineage would be transmitted. In addition, the model also incorporates a multitude of adjustments for the Indian market including seat shape that allows for tandem riding (integrated with the main seat), tandem grips that are easy to grip and also contribute to the supersport design, and a riding position that takes into account comfort, etc. In other words, the YZF-R15 is characterized by a hybrid design that combines the world-class design of the “R” series with localized functions. The YZF-R15 was created to lead the supersport category in India.
yamaha r15 is a bit too short compared to other bikes and rear wheels are too small but dealer said they can handle turns better as they are tubeless
Yamaha YZF R15 is the first model for the Indian market designed in the true supersport image and featuring a high-level balance of enjoyable running performance on winding roads. Packed full of state-of-the-art technologies, the new YZF-R15 boasts performance worthy of a supersport model and a body design that evokes the image of the YZF-R series and gives visual expression to the quality of its ride. The YZF R15 is powered by 149.8cc Fuel Injected liquid cooled engine that will be producing an almost impossible 17bhp with maximum torque of 15 Nm at 7500rpm; which makes it like the most powerful bike under 200cc range and has a 6-speed Transmission. Yamaha is showcasing its potential for India with some real performance.
It is based on totally race technology with which MotoGP bikes runs, technology with which R1 is built. It has India’s first 150cc 4 valve engine with forged pistons, Deltabox frame & 6speed gear box. It’s overall length is 1995mm, overall width is 670mm and its wheels base is 1290mm. Since sporty YZF R15 is shorter too and its height is just 1070mm. YZF R15 features F 80/90 -17 inches tyres in the front and 100/80-17 inches tyres in the rear. Both the tyres are tubeless.
Design
The “R” Design: This characteristic of motorcycles designed by YAMAHA as represented by the R series reflects the philosophy running through these models — expressing performance visually.
For example, YZF-R6 shows a strong body line that springs up in a single line from the rear axle to the pivot and then to the head pipe. This is a visual expression of the straight shape of the Deltabox frame. These elements are a visual expression of “frame rigidity.” Viewed from the side, the shape created by the side panel and the upper surface of the tank creates an impression of the center of gravity shifting to the front tire. This is a visual representation of how the front tire grips the road in its sporty running performance. Needless to say, YZF-R1, with its athletic build, is also a visual expression of performance. A characteristic of the R series is that, when you view the machine, you get a sense of its concept and performance.
This philosophy has been fully transmitted to YZF-R15. An important point to note is that this motorcycle is not a scaled-down version of YZF-R1 or YZF-R6. YZF-R15’s design is based on having an excellent engine cooling method.
The shape of the cowling around the radiator area was determined so that the shapes of the air intake area and the rear outlet area where the air is scooped out are optimized to improve radiator efficiency. As for the outlet area, the mid-cowl area was designed using sculpturing 3D methods to create a three dimensional shape with a sense of volume. This resulted in an outlet area through which air is directed outwards with minimal resistance. We were able to present the new R series also in terms of design, and we have been able to maximize the performance of the liquid cooled engine, which will be a first for the Indian market.
When viewed from the front, it gives a sense of volume that seems well beyond its 150cc displacement. This does not simply mean that it is voluminous, but that it is grounded in the Art of Engineering which transforms function into art.
Engine
YZF-R15 is equipped with this all-aluminum cylinder called the DiASil Cylinder and a forged piston, the same type of piston used in YAMAHA’s supersport bikes. The fact that both the piston and cylinder of YZF-R15 are all-aluminum ensures excellent heat dissipation, eliminates heat-induced engine power loss, and helps improve fuel efficiency. The DiASil Cylinder is given a special surface treatment to prevent oil evaporation from the cylinder’s surface and improve oil consumption. The cylinder also has excellent hardness and is considerably resistant to wear compared to conventional iron sleeves.
Additionally, the piston is made in a forging process, the optimum way of achieving lightweight designs. The reciprocating mass with the forged piston is approximately 20% less ( according to Yamaha test ) than with an engine of the same displacement fitted with a conventional cast aluminum piston. Resulting in an invigorating feeling when revving up. Conventional pistons are typically made in a casting process where molten aluminum is cast in a mold. YAMAHA developed its proprietary “controlled forging technology” in 1997, which enables mass production of forged aluminum pistons. These pistons have been used in sport models such as the R series. The same manufacturing process was used to develop YZF-R15. Forged pistons retain the excellent strength of aluminum alloys because the metallurgic matrix of aluminum is not affected during the fabrication process. Therefore, the piston can be made lighter and thinner.
Chassis
YZF-R15 is equipped with a linked type monocross suspension that delivers a comfortable ride and a cushioning performance that is less prone to bottoming out. In particular, it reduces annoying “sinking” when riding tandem. The linked monocross suspension consists of a link mechanism sandwiched between the rear arm and cushion unit to create changes in the lever ratio based on the lever effect. When the shock absorber is almost fully extended, the lever ratio is high and therefore the spring is soft, and the damper works softly as well.
As the shock absorber strokes in, the lever ratio gradually decreases and the spring rate increases. Eventually, when it is nearly fully stroked in, the lever ratio becomes small and the spring becomes hard and strong. The damper also becomes hard. By making changes to the lever ratio in this way, we were able to achieve soft riding comfort as well as excellent damping under intense load conditions. The optimization of the frame and rear arm rigidity of the Deltabox Frame combined with the effects of the linked type monocross suspension achieve good riding comfort, agile handling, and turnability, hardly ever causing bottoming out.
Fuel Efficiency
In order to maximize the efficiency of the fuel injector, which injects the optimum amount of fuel for different amounts of intake air, YZF-R15 is equipped with a large 3-liter air cleaner. The duct area of the intake duct was designed optimally to optimize the flow of intake air. Additionally, the use of a 4-valve combustion chamber (a combustion chamber with 2 intake and exhaust valves each) has allowed designers to layout the spark plug at the center of the combustion chamber for better flame propagation. This also increases the total valve area relative to the 2-valve chambers for improved intake/exhaust efficiency (volumetric efficiency). YZF-R15 is fitted with a hemispherical 4-valve combustion chamber, a configuration that allows intake and exhaust valves to be laid out in the smallest size possible.
Following are some performance figures of Yamaha R15:
1) 0-60km/h : 3.0 sec
2) 0-100km/h : 9.0 sec
3) Top speed : 145km/h
4) Fuel economy : Around 35-45kmpl

yamaha r125 looks more solid compared to yamaha r15
drawback for me but may be an advantage for others ! yamaha r15 certainly is a small bike !!
saw yamaha r15 in action today it looks like a racer bike with thin wheels
!
has the power been purposely reduced by yamaha for easy control? is there some trick to increase the power !!?
Yamaha R15 is ok-ok
d bikE RokZ..
dEfinitEly bEttA dAn Any OdA indiAn bikE…..
but hOw dO v iNcReez d PoWer????
Yamaha R15 cool or not cool….for me its cool compared to any other bike in India..
Areas where Yamaha could have worked so as to make it more cool , would be the rear taillight …and also to an extend the wheelbase ..somewhere near 1325 would have given a bigger bike feel ..and may be a split seat !
Well i dint get a chance to test ride the bike ..neverthless from the figures i would say its really worth for the price!! though areas of improvements are there !!
About the rear tyre , I dont think its a big issue as even the Karizmaas comes with 100/80 tyres as we need to keep in mind that bigger tyres increase the weight..hampers the performance
Fit n finish is awesome ..yamaha always keeps its class in that !!
I think you are comparing R125 with R15 , but then keep in mind that R125 is almost double the price , 3 Bhp less than r15 ..
So given all the constraints that Indian bike market gives to yamaha R15 is a real good buy !!!
comments????
It is 1 good bike coming to india but rejoy there is no bikes in showroom and nobody knows when it will come.. there seems to be some problem with yamaha R15 availability / production ?? I wanted to test ride but it has just not arrived yet !
YAMAHA R15 ROCKS !!
Hey Shreyas ..yes in blore i have seen some on road ..yes the blue colored ones !!…infact i too wanted to take a test ride ..but as a matter of fact till now i dint get time to do that …I could hear from the yamaha officials that the bike will be available for test ride from July 1st onwards!!
so in this gap were u able to have a test ride ??//
Not yet dude !! have to test it sometime. yamaha r15 have started advertising but i dont feel the excitement as much as i felt it some time ago !
I would rather ride scooty electric in all this traffic. can you review some of the electric bikes in india ?
Cn Yamaha R15 beat Pulsar 220.
I m confused between R15 n Pulsar 220. Which one will win?
Please tell me guys.
Hi Guys!!!
Yes i agree that as of now this is the sporty look bike in this price tag. It looks gr8,however the tyres are drawback for this bike….anyway i still go for this bike.
Engine specifications are preety good.
CONGRATS!!!those who are planning to buy.
when it will come to BANGLADESH
whats the price would be in BANGLADESH
when it will come to nepal?
Yamaha R15 is a nice bike BUT does not stand out too much from the compitition. It is tough to choose man. Pulsar looks cool. The overall looks of R15 are not that appealing (I think) especially from the back.
also pulsar 220 is much more power than yamaha r15!
i dont see a single yamaha r15 on road yet ever. why why why ?
bilke is good but price is very high for 150 cc that much price is waste and bhp also same so if it is 80,000 then ok l lakh 11,00 is not that much worth i think
any chance to reduce price in next one to two months if any one know about that tell to me u guys
well ..lack of excitement.as every one is unhappy abt its look from the rear ..thin tyres…to be more specefic low prof tyres…but then from the reviews wat i could understand was that its amazin at its grip around the corners…it has tons more in it than mere looks ..!!
To choose between r15 n p220 …given a chance i would go for r15 ..!! I heard claims tat p220 won in the drag race, some claim again that its fake. But without a word of dispute every1 agrees that the winner is definitely r15 whn it comes to race track.
The point here is R15 excels all other bike on indian road when it comes to technology. It may be correct that p220 has another 4 bhp more than R15,but delivering it to the tyres and then on to the road is not a cake walk ..it demands something more than increasing the bore and stroke of ur engine cylinder !!
Its not a childs play to make u feel comfortable confident even when u are riding at speeds of 115km/hr ..I dont think that you get the same comfortability levels in a p220 …!!
And even at the looks department , is there anything other than the front fairing makes it look different from a p200 / p150..?I always feel that bajaj is exploiting the ‘CC consiousness’ and ‘ we need fat tyre ‘ slogan of the indian bike buyer…
I dnt think if any1 of us had thought about the max speed and power to weight ratio of P220 until the R15 was launched ..its max speed is not so high than a 13.7 Bhp pulsar..then wat else is that factor that p220 has so that it demands indian biker to pay another 25 thousand to grab it ??
I feel that both the indian biker and bajaj need to put their thinking hats on!! to choose the best bike
I think these many reasons are enuf for me to choose R15
cooooooool bike fantastic …!!
cool….fantastic Bike>>>>>!!!!
how much price it will be when it come to Bangladesh?
Yamaha R15 simply rocks man !
expected price of yamaha R15 in nepal including all tax n duties?
No at all cool…even though i am big big yamaha fan, as i own an ‘88 model yamaha RX 100…
i dont think this mahine will rock the road…
again another f***ing(not in all senses) bike from yamaha…
AGAIN DISAPPOINTING YAMAHA FANS IN INDIA…
Hello, I am a Tech Specialist in a MNC in Noida and a great bike lover, I am riding since the age of 9 and I am 29 today.
I have completed 4000 Kms on R15 and using it since a month.
I totally agree that when I first made up my mind to go for it, I thought it must be a something more powerful (when it comes to pickup).
But I would really say that its far more better than any other Indian Bike in the market.
Having used both Karizma and Pulsar .
And I will like to share my outlook;
1. I have travelled straight from Lucknow to Delhi having only two stays in between thats about 200 kms of non stop riding at a speed of 75-80 on avg. (coz of its Diasil cylinder and Forged piston, cilinder has 20% silicon which keeps it cooler than rest of the bykes.)
I dont think any other Indian Byke can do that, it will burn out and the clutch plates will cease.
2. It has given me amileage of 45 km/lt on highways and 38-40 kms/lts in City.I n which I have operated it around to 135 km/hr at times.Which means Its best in its class.
3. It has an awesome grip on roads, its not important for a bike that it goes past 130-140 what is important its that how much safer it is to go to that speed. Toy can really feel safe at speeds of 120, the byke will not skid when applying brakes as that speed.
Some people say that it has narow tyres, they were specially made for R15, having soft rubber and different raddi, complete tubeless providing 3 times better grip that Pulsar and about 2 times better that Karizma in my view.
Before riding this I loved Karizma, coz it was better than Pulsar, but those two feel to be pieces of srap of primitive machines when comapred to R15.
Dont check the speed and pickup. Ride it above 120 km/hr you will forget about the price and comparisons.
Thanks Vivek for your view of yamaha r15 it was very useful i like black colour more than blue colour
have you seen the black r15 at night !! it is a smooth black beauty highly impressive
thanks to the yahama company for giving out their r15.. in india…im very greatful to the company…do r15 wil rely hit the road like pulsar 220cc in indian road…wel the r15 is rely good but the body is very short and looks very small…its tyres are also very small both the front and the back…So its my request to the company that let the tyres be at least as big as the racing tyres….thanks ..Yahama Company…
please answer my quetion spending rs 1 lakh on 150cc bike and 17bhp bike is worth or not
dont just go by the numbers it is not about the price when you love the looks and performance.. all reviewers have ranked it above pulsar 220 karizma tvs and all other bikes in india. it is the best and it looks awesome.
has anyone seen the blue yamaha R15 on display ? which colour looks better ? blue or black ??

hey bro
any email address where to buy that parts?
price in pune is 1.09 ! and there is 10-15 days waiting
Is it the Yamaha R15 in John Abraham’s engine oil advertisement ?
it is awesome and looks better than the other bikes in nepal. but it would be better if the cc is increased to 200cc from 150cc. and seats should be same as in europe, which will look more like sports bike.
Hi All,
My name is Ashwin and I love the R15 a lot and it is a superb unbeatable bike.
One advise I would like to give is don’t look at this bike as 150 cc bike or 17 bhp bike, as this bike far more capable than P220 and Karizma which currently rules the upper class.
It rides very smoothly and it is very stable while riding.
And I have booked one in blue. Before I reached showroom I was thinking of taking a black colored one, but man once I saw the blue.. Itz awesome.
Currently there is a wait time of upto 20 days in Navi Mumbai and It cost me 1,05,000 on road.
But I would say It is worth it. And also it give a decent mileage of 40 -45 kpl which is awesomw again.
Seating of R15 is superb with good pillion support. You know R125 looks superb but it lacks pillion support, and yamaha has though a lot before lauching a split seats for R15, because that would become a complete failure in a family consious nation like India.
Also its FI and Liquid cooled Engine is superb.
So guy don’t think or compare this with any other bikes currently availble in India, GO FOR IT. This bike is unbeatable.
tyres are thin.
should be broad.
look of r15 is good but the price tag of 250000 is a bit too much at that rice u can considear another companys bykes or even bye a pulshar 200 and modefy it it will be best u can save a lot and at a same time u make ur bike different than others
HAI! GUYS I HAVE SEEN THE R15. BUT I THINK THE BLACK ONE LOOKS BETTER THAN THE BLUE OR RED .THE PRICE IS 113475 /-
THE DRAWBACKS ARE IT DOESN’T HAVE A CENTRE STAND!
THE TIRES ARE THIN BUT THEY DO AWESOME JOB WHILE RIDING
THE HORN SOUNDS SOMETHING LIKE ACTIVA
THE PRICE IS TOO HIGH FOR A 150CC-17BHP BIKE
Thanks for all the guys who gave their comments, till now I was in a dilemma to choose between Pulsar & Karizma, but Yamaha R15 beat those things. Now its only yamaha in my mind, and I m a die-hard fan of Yamaha since my school days. But after R100 and RXZ there is no other machine which clicked in Indian Market…hats off to Yamaha technology engineers…
I have been waiting long enough to own dis bike & make sum changes on the exterior, but yet it has not arrived in Bangladesh….
[...] the Yamaha YZF R15 (sports bike), the Yamaha FZ-16 is a macho street fighter. The bike gets its looks from the global [...]
R15 is better than fz16 no ?
which one is better city ride in pune traffic ? r15 or fz16 ??
hi this is kushal i thin r15 rocks and it will goin to fail pulsar220&karizma if the price of r15 will goin to come down.
YAMAHA R15 is very Good .
Dear R1/15 lovers plz note here that front and back wheels are thin because of only great performance like low weight , easy movements in traffic, high machine performance ,so i request to all R15 lovers dont change wheels, it was not drawback.
Hey there! I’m a college going guy and my college is around 23 km from my house in Pune and i was wondering which bike is better - R15 or the FZ16?
Can someone please give a good comparison?
1) yamaha r15 17bhp > yamaha fz 16 14bhp
2) yamaha r15 has fuel injection tech.
3) yamaha r15 has cooler headlights
4) yamaha r15 has 5 gears
5) yamaha r15 has cool accessories
6) looks better
yamaha fz 16 has:
1) yamaha fz 16 has adjustable rear shock
2) yamaha fz 16 has a main stand
3) yamaha fz 16 has fat tyres
4) cheaper bike and spares
I am of the opinion that the yamaha r15 is overall better & more fun than the fz 16…
Pls tel me How much price it will be when it come to Bangladesh?
satan u r saying ur colg is 23km away frm ur house if this is the condition go for fz16 cos company is claiming 50-52 millage but atleast it will give 40-45 for sure seeing high fuel prices

yamaha r15 is soon going to get a center stand either as an optional (company fitted) accessory or free for all bikes (dont know yet), these center stands may be fitted while servicing soon.
